Holy Baptism
God’s gift of forgiveness, faith, and new life in Christ.
God’s Gracious Gift
Holy Baptism is God’s gracious gift, instituted by Jesus Christ
for people of all ages. In Baptism, water is joined to God’s Word,
and God Himself is at work—giving the forgiveness of sins,
creating and strengthening faith, giving the Holy Spirit,
and joining us to Christ and His Church.
Baptism is not simply a symbol of our faith or something we do
for God; it is a means of grace through which God gives us the
blessings Christ won for us through His death and resurrection.
For this reason, Lutherans baptize both children and adults,
trusting Christ’s command and promise and rejoicing in the gift
He gives through Holy Baptism.
“Whoever believes and is baptized
will be saved.”
Mark 16:16
“The promise is for you
and for your children.”
Acts 2:39
