The house was jam packed.
It was standing room only.
Jesus was in the middle of it all, teaching the Word of God. Jesus would have been teaching the people to “repent and to believe the Gospel!” (Mark 1:15). The Teachers of the Law had front row seats; and everyone else was crowded in; straining to hear everything that Jesus had to say.
Everybody in the room expected Jesus to heal the man, but He didn’t. Rather Jesus absolved the man of his sins! “Jesus said to the paralyzed man, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.’” Absolution is the formal and public announcement that your sins are forgiven, that you are set free from them! Jesus absolved this man his sins by His Own authority! Jesus use this opportunity to show that He truly was God in flesh, God incarnate, who has the authority to forgive sins!
There was no question that Jesus is God: not only does he work a wonderful miracle and healing the paralytic, but he also has authority to forgive sins on earth!
